Jo and his family
Jo had 11 siblings of which only 6 reached adulthood. He was the second oldest. Because of the high infant mortality rate, Jo was baptized on April, 1st 1732. He always said his birthday was the 31st of march because he didn’t wanted to be treated as april’s fool!
In 1737 his brother Michael was born and became known as the “Haydn of Salzburg”. His sister, Anna Maria Haydn was born in 1739 and lived her life in Rohrau. Then there were the twins Anna Katharina Haydn (1741) and Johann Kaspar Haydn, but Johann died with only 7 months.
Furthermore, he had one last brother, Johann Evangelist Haydn (1743) who was also employed by Count Esterházy in Eisenstadt. Jo still supported his brother by giving him financial aid and a free apartment.
