Question 2
Stop babbling nonsense Jo!
Jo’s operas, huh, he always said they were his most famous work …The most recognition gained the operas le Pescatrice, L’incontro improviso, l’infedeltä delusa, which have been enjoyed by Maria Theresia
But I’m not too sure… many held a different opinion.
Jo might’ve just wanted to pay tribute to the idea that you’re only a good musician if you wrote successful operas.
Jo composed 24 operas in 40 years (1751-1791), but he knew that his friend Mozart surpassed him in that regard.
Papa Haydn wrote his last opera in London but it fell into oblivion and was therefore first performed in 1951.
Truly a shame… Jo always complained that only 5 of his operas are known in their entirety, at least we still remember most parts of 6 others!
