Well, hello there!
I am the parrot of Papa Haydn going by the name of “Papperl“. I’m here to tell you all about Jo and his life! But first of all I’m going to tell you about myself.
Papa Jo has brought me here from one of his trips to London. As you can see I’m the most fabulous grey parrot! And… wow, I was a little know-it-all! I could say “Come, Haydn Papa to your beautiful Papperl” and “Papa Haydn”. I could even sing melodies like the royal anthem “Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser”! Pretty impressive, right?
When Papa Jo died in May 1809 I was sold to prince Johann of Liechtenstein for what today would be 32.500 Euros, 27.974 Pound or 36.951 Dollars. As it was kind of en vogue these days Jean-Phillipe Rameau, Guiseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner were also keeping birds.
Today you will find me as a stuffed animal in the Haydn Room in the Viennese house of music!
